The film, a musical drama, revolves around the son of a mridangam maker who aspires to teach the instrument to a maestro and become a mridangam player, and must overcome social and personal obstacles to achieve his goal . This is the return of Rajiv Menon after 19 years – following the Kandukondain Kandukondain multi-starrer of 2000.
The film was shown at the Tokyo Film Festival earlier this year, where it was warmly received. After his release in India, he was acclaimed by critics. The performance of veteran Nedumudi Venu was particularly appreciated. It was also considered a better release for its main actor, GV Prakash, after an avalanche of unimportant films.
