As an extraordinary fashion designer, Sabyasachi has been synonymous with perfection. The praise won by the Kolkata-based designer – whether on the Internet or not – is endless.

However, the designer's latest Instagram post on his official Instagram account has provoked the collective indignation of the internet for the view that he gives to women who seem to have "the air too dressed.

Drawn from a quote from an iconic literary character, Miss Havisham, of the timeless English literary clbadic, Great Expectations the message badumes that "overdressed" women are really " injured. " The post then advises followers, to take time to give it a "valuable company" and "treat" with empathy.

Although the message may come from a place of good intention – we would like to believe it – this intention was apparently lost in Sabya's translation and Instagram followers not responding well to the message, obviously even calling it misogynistic, ignorant and disgusting.

The dam of comments on the post echoes a collective thought process: That such regressive statements do not belong in the 21st century.

Sabyasachi currently remains one of the country's leading tailors – from celebrity wedding dresses to creating every Indian woman's dream of marriage. His current point of view, however, does not resonate with any of these women at a distance.

Finally, the golden words of Oscar Wilde come to mind: "You can never be too dressed or too educated."
