First, to break a finger, you have to close your hand, almost fist. Secondly, when Dr. Strange declares that Thanos must close his fist in order to use the glove, the glove itself is not complete. Once the wearer has reached the almost omnipotent level of the six stones, the use of his powers becomes more a thought than an action. This rectifies the "plot" even before it really becomes so.
