Not two words about it, Jersey is a brilliantly designed sports drama. Filled with emotional moments, realistic sequences, breathtaking cricket matches, the film is six years old. The drama father-son replaces the main game, but it also contains enough sports moments in the second period
The first film of Gowtam Tinnanuri (19459004) did not impressed me by his long romantic episode on adolescents but in his second film, the director impresses with his brilliant scriptwriting and skillful direction. The way he starts the story and ends it with a good turn is a testament to his writing skills.
In a nutshell, the film tells the story of a 36-year-old man realizing the impossible: a place in the cricket team. The narration of this simple line with amazing characters and touching moments made all the difference.
Gowtam established the baseline of the story at the very beginning, starting with Arjun's adult son in New York, recalling his father's trip.
Gowtam Tinnanuri changes the story by explaining how Arjun's life became miserable after losing his job and his money problems as well as his zeal to make his son proud. He wrote simple scenes that are quite effective on the screen thanks to the performances of the actors.
The film contains good moments: Nani's son tells a lie to his mother, Nani goes to railroad to shout his joy when he is selected, and the casual way of
tell the last turn.
While the middle part swells too long, the film stands out in the second half. There are many moments that make you shed a tear or two.
However, Nani strives to get 500 Rs to buy a jersey is not convincing. This amount is insufficient for him to have difficulty achieving his goal in 1996. This is a major flaw. Also the length of the film is another
problem. Some scenes remind us of the 2006 Hollywood movie The Search for Happiness .
While we began to think that Nani normalized his style of play and did not propose anything different in terms of performance, he has a surprise in this movie. The Ronith kid who plays the role of Nani's son is not only pretty, he also impresses with his style. Shraddha Srinath, an actress known for her films in Tamil / Kannada, made an impressive debut. As Sarah, she is totally convincing. It's a pretty mature performance. The former actor Sathya Raj as the driving force of Nani is another great performance of the film. Praveen is a good friend of Nani.
Sports films work effectively when technical and production values are impeccable. The photographic work of Shanu Varghese is phenomenal. He captured the frantic atmosphere of the matches so well. More than the songs, Anirudh Ravichander's score remains the culmination. The rhythm of the film is at leisure, it requires a tighter editing. The production values are excellent.
Director Gautam Tinnanuri impresses with his ingenious leadership over his first attempt by Malli Raava . He not only chose a kind of sport little explored but also told it honestly, without shunning the plot.
Jersey is a refreshing and captivating sporting drama. The film offers many comforting moments. The climax sequence is superb. Nani's brilliant performance, his scenes of emotion and his frank narration make it a good movie.
