AHMEDABAD: In a shocking incident, a worker was killed and two people were injured after the attack of a lion on Thursday in Devalia Safari Park, in Junagadh district, in the Gujarat.

The lion first attacked a worker, identified as Rajnish Keshwala (32), and dragged him into the park that morning, said DT Vasavada, Chief Forest Conservator (CCF) ( Junagadh Wildlife Circle), told PTI

"When another worker, Dinesh Sakhat, tried to save Keshwala, the lion attacked him as well.As Sakhat managed to escape, the lion dragged Keshwala into the park's forest. the incident staff, "he says.

Sakhat, who was seriously injured, was taken to the Junagadh Civil Hospital and the forestry authorities immediately launched a search for Keshwala, the CFO said.

"During the search inside the park, the staff found Keshwala's body and during the recovery, the lion also attacked a forester," said Vasavada.

The forester was slightly injured and taken to the hospital, he added.

The body of Keshwala was found, Vasavada said, adding that an investigation would be opened on the incident.

The agent did not rule out the possibility that more than one lion was involved in the attacks.

Devalia Safari Park is located near the Gir National Park, the last home of the endangered Asian lions in Sasan, Junagadh district, about 350 kilometers away from here.

The Forestry Department employed a number of workers to badist in the maintenance of the park on an area of ​​412 hectares.

The park, also known as Gir Interpretation Zone – Devalia – was created to reduce the tourist burden of Gir National Park. It is a closed facility secured by a chain link fence.

In addition to Asian lions, the park is home to leopard, blue bull, sambhar, chital, jackal, black male and wild boar animals.
