Mumbai: AR Rahman, an Oscar-winning Indian music composer, who was followed in social media while his daughter Khatija wore a niqab at an event, defended his "freedom to choose". Rahman was criticized on social media after 10 years of award-winning Slumdog Millionaire.

His daughter had shared the stage with him during the event. She was wearing a black sari and her face was covered with a niqab with only her eyes visible. Photos of the event have brought some of the social network users to question.

Rahman went on Wednesday on Twitter to silence the hunters with another photo showing Khatija, his other daughter Raheema, his wife Sairaa and Nita Ambani – of the one event. "The precious ladies of my family Khatija, Raheema and Sairaa with Nita Ambaniji. The freedom to choose," writes Rahman in a subtle and powerful response to the trollers.
