The actor has always been transparent about when he fell prey to drugs. Even in his biopic titled Sanju, in which Ranbir Kapoor described the lead role, viewers were able to see its difficulties in eliminating drug addiction. In a recent interview, Sanjay indicated that he wanted to participate in a national campaign to combat drug abuse. The campaign will be held respectively on the Chandigarh and Hisar campuses on February 18 and 19.

Earlier today, Sanjay shared a #DrugFreeIndia campaign poster on his Twitter account. The actor tweeted: "I've always wanted to do something to eradicate drug addiction in India.The #DrugFreeIndia campaign is a step in that direction! Because of my personal experiences, it's a cause that is dear to my heart and I wish to help the young people of our country Thank you @SriSri guruji for your support. "
The idea of such a campaign against drug addiction goes back to the time Sanjay was released from Yerwada Prison in 2016. Soon after, the actor and his friends, producer Ajay Arora, lyricist Montoo Bbadi and filmmaker Mahavir Jain had an in-depth conversation about the growing problems of youth addiction. A year later, the actor and his friends approached Sri Ravi Shankar in Bengaluru to look for a way to go forward.
Along with Sanjay, celebrities from city B, including Sonakshi Sinha, Parineeti Chopra, Badshah, Sonu Nigam, Kapil Sharma and Varun Sharma, also demonstrated to support the campaign. While the campaign will involve 25,000 students on campus, students will be able to view the event live.
