KOCHI / THIRUVANATHPURAM: New film industry personalities came in public on Saturday to protest the initiative of the Association of Malayalam (AMMA) Cinema Artists to re-enthrone Dileep in the body of the actors.

A statement, signed by a hundred directors, artists and technicians, condemns the decision of AMMA, which they deem contrary to the "bold young woman" who decides to wage a legal battle against those who kidnapped and abused a year ago.

Shortly after, the new president of the badociation, the actor Mohanlal, issued a statement from London, claiming that leaders were ready to consider the emotions that led to the resignation of four members.

Four of the leading female actors, including the survivor, had resigned from the badociation, protesting against the decision of his general body to re-admit Dileep, an accused in the case.

Mohanlal remained mom since the June 26 AMMA decision sparked an uproar throughout the state.

The film's personalities statement promised to support the survivor – whom they preferred to call the "daring woman". Award-winning actors Parvathy, Vinayakan, directors Vidhu Vincent, Sreebala K Menon, Rajeev Ravi, Sbadkumar Sasidharan and Anwar Rasheed were among the signatories. The signatories stated that the badociation had been forced to overthrow Dileep after finding it difficult to cope with the society.

The statement says that the badociation even ridiculed the survivor and those who stood by his side. "We salute those who come out of the fold of the badociation after expressing their mistrust and these female colleagues, leading a war against the male feudal attitude," he added. They also targeted MPs Mukesh and Ganesh Kumar, who were selected at AMMA as vice presidents. "We hope that they will uphold democratic decorum and accountability to people," the statement said.

Meanwhile, Mohanlal, "pained" on criticism against AMMA, said the decision on Dileep was made democratically, and the leaders had no vested interest.

Remya Nambeeshan, one of the four who had left AMMA, said their action was never against an individual. "What shocked us is how such a request for reintegration could be raised at the meeting.There is what is called social responsibility and we questioned the moral and ethical motivation behind such a request and decision We welcome their willingness to dialogue, "she said.

Mohanlal says AMMA was standing by the survivor and that it was inhuman to call the badociation a "mafia". He, however, did not respond to criticism that the general body was summoned as a muffled affair and the inclusion of Dileep was not in the main agenda.
