Amol Palekar, a veteran Bollywood actor and renowned artist, who was attending an exhibition in Mumbai, recently had an unpleasant experience at a similar event in town.

He is interrupted several times during his speech at the National Gallery of Modern Art and must also shorten it.

The event was held in memory of the renowned artist Prabhakar Barwe. In his speech, Amol explained how the art gallery had lost its independence as to its functioning.

Until last October, the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) had an "Advisory Committee of Local Artists" in charge of making decisions regarding the organization various exhibitions.

However, Palekar said the committee is now controlled by the Ministry of Culture.

And when he was arrested by the curator of the show and the current director of the NGMA, he questioned them if they wanted him to stop his speech and censorship.
