An earthquake strikes the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, third in two days

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands have experienced frequent earthquakes in recent days. Sunday's earthquakes were the third consecutive in two days.

An earthquake of magnitude 4.5 on the Richter scale struck the Nicobar Islands Sunday morning at about 7:49 am.

Later another earthquake of magnitude of 4.8 On the Richter scale, Bankura, West Bengal, took place at about 10:39.

According to the ANI news agency, two medium-intensity earthquakes of 5.0 and 4.8 on the Richter scale also rocked the Andaman and Nicobar Islands region on Saturday.

The islands have experienced frequent earthquakes in recent days.

The first Saturday earthquake, a magnitude 5.0, hit the area around 2:52 while the second, a magnitude 4.8, occurred at 5:00 am .

The two earthquakes took place at a depth of 10 km

No casualties, injuries or material damage have been reported so far.

The region that is prone to frequent earthquakes and was shaken by intensity tremors of 4.1 and 5.6 respectively on May 21 and 22, respectively.
