Hrithik Roshan, Bollywood actor, will soon be considered as the mathematician Anand Kumar in Vikas Bahl's Super 30, inspired by Kumar's initiative to train disadvantaged children for the tough IIT entry exams. When the movie trailer landed recently, it received mixed reviews. While Hrithik was criticized for his tan and unconvincing accent, fans were satisfied with the film's overall concept. The subject of the film, Anand, has now supported the star and said that he had chosen Hrithik to play himself on the screen.
In response to critics, Anand Kumar told The Quint in an interview, "When I selected Hrithik Roshan, everyone laughed. to me saying that he looks like a Greek god and I have to pick someone who could watch the game. But when I met him, he said that this movie was very difficult and that I would take the time to get into your character. He spoke to me. He spent hours and hours with me. When the caravan came out, my mother had tears in her eyes. My brother was as surprised. I have a two year old girl who jumped excitedly saying, "Daddy, daddy!"

Anand also claimed to have chosen the director and the actor for his story. "Every time a biographical film is made, the directors take the rights of the story. Then they visit their homes, understand the story and write. But my case was different. I chose them Not only the scenario, but who will direct it, who will act. I've decided everything. And I worked with them on the movie script. I used to find myself in lively discussions with Vikas Bahl and Sanjeev Dutta. I did not want fiction in the story. Whatever the truth should be, "he said.

He also revealed the inspiration of the concept of his Super 30: "In 1994, I was selected at the University of Cambridge for graduate studies. But we did not have money. My father was in the postal service, as the movie shows. We did not even have the money to buy a ticket for the flight. He was more and more worried and died because of it. Then I thought there were a lot of kids like me who dropped out of school because they did not have the financial support. My mother made 'papad' and I was going to sell it; we made our living with that. Then I started to keep these children at home and teach them.
This is not the first time Anand's story is seen on screen. Discovery Channel produced an hour-long documentary on Anand and its Super 30 initiative. Yoichi Itoh, Chief Economist of the STB Research Institute in Japan, also directed a film on Super 30 for the Japanese channel NHK and qualified Anand's initiative "the secret weapon of India".
Super 12 will be released in theaters on July 12th.
