Married for 35 years and for 10 years already, actor Anil Kapoor has celebrated 45 years of communion with his wife, Sunita Kapoor, today. Here is Anil in a free and exclusive conversation, recalling and revealing information about his love story.
What is the story of your wedding?
I thought, "Oh my God, what a beautiful voice yaar, kya english bolti hai, the pronunciation is so good". I met her for the first time at Raj Kapoor's house. I was deterred (people said) that it was a hara-kiri for me to get married. I arrived at a situation where I was at the crossroads – career or love. I had started to find work, but everyone said, "You are well and your career is just beginning. You climb the ladder of success and now that you are getting married you will fall. I had to make a choice – either go down or get married. I said I did not mind going down, but I would not sacrifice … it's more important to me. It's a fact, I'm not pretending.
So while you were working in movies, she decided to stay at home and take care of your children, Sonam, Rhea and Harsh Varrdhan …
These women, she was still working. When we did not go out together, she was a model. A banker's daughter, she always made sure and never took money from her parents.
