Aquaman beats The Dark Knight Rises to become the most profitable movie of all time on DC

Director James Wan, Aquaman, has just broken a new box office record, and this one is perhaps the most important. He became the most profitable DC film of all time, defeating Christopher Nolan's film The Dark Knight Rises in 2012.

Played by Jason Momoa in the lead role, Aquaman takes place in the DC Extended Universe (DCUS) and was already the biggest film in the universe, beating Batman v Superman.

Exiting Aquaman on Dec. 14 in India, Warner Bros. took Aquaman off the international markets before North America (where it was released Dec. 21) to give him a leg up on movies like Bumblebee and Mary Poppins Returns. Thus, the film was already a success before reaching its home market.

Aquaman talks about the hybrid Atlantean / human hybrid Arthur Curry / Aquaman, who is caught up in the conflict between Atlantis's underwater world and the surface world. Aquaman's half-brother, King Orm (Patrick Wilson), wants to wage war against humans for polluting the oceans for centuries.

Arthur teams up with his allies like Amber Heard's Mera to try to track down the Trident of Atlan, the legendary king of Atlantis, to defeat Orm. Aquaman is also starring Willem Dafoe, Dolph Lundgren, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Nicole Kidman

Aquaman is the only film in the DCEU besides Wonder Woman to get rather positive reviews. He received a score of 64% at Rotten Tomatoes. The consensus reads as follows: "Aquaman is swimming with his fun and ridiculous tide, offering a CGI superhero show that offers energetic action emphasizing good old-fashioned entertainment."
