Avengers: Endgame – Has Captain America acted well?

The coming SPOILERS for the Avengers: Endgame!

The Avengers: Endgame left the audience excited, amazed, crying and perhaps a little confused. This is what happens when you create an incredibly complex and multi-level scenario with different realities and a journey back in time

. This is also the case when you conclude one of the most beloved characters in the Marvel cinematic universe with an emotionally devastating scene that, if you think about it, turns it into a selfish fool.

But to know if Captain America made the right choice in Avengers: Endgame, we'll have to talk about it. Huge spoilers so tie up! We are there …

What happened to Captain America?

At the end of Avengers: Endgame, Captain America volunteered to go back in time and put the Infinity Stones back in place of the Avengers. Why? Because they had to steal time and steal the stones of different years to bademble the Gauntlet Infinity, as Thanos had destroyed the Stones in the current scenario.

Bruce Banner explained that going back in time does not change the future. , but The Ancient One points out that going back in time creates alternative realities in which time travel has a ripple effect. Thus, in order to preserve their own chronology, without condemning any (because each chronology needs the Infinity Stones), Captain America had to put the stones back to the place where they were, before anyone could see them. on notice. time, and tries to bring it back to the present, but it does not work. But he may have broken more than he has repaired.

The Good News

It is comforting to think that Captain America has returned to the time and created another reality where he married Peggy and where he lived happily. she in the background of the MCU for all these decades.

Captain America went back in time and married Peggy Carter, the woman he always loved and who, according to the official chronology of the MCU. – eventually got married to someone else and had two children.

We do not know their names, but from the pictures on her bedside table in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Peggy had a son and a daughter. And although she may have also had children with Steve, they would be different, because that's how genetics works.

Captain America has stepped back in time to repair the damage caused by changing the past and creating alternative realities. A new one just because he felt like it … even though at least two people probably do not exist – at least in this timeline – because of that.

Even though he swore to Tony not to dismantle his children, Cape He probably did the same thing to Peggy's.

Then Again …

There are ways to look at this that do not mind Captain America for its egoism, but they require a lot more information than we ever get. So it's probably a wishful thinking or a fan theory, rather than the plausible real scenario.

But if it bothers you – and it bothers me – then you can write it with the following hypothetical scenarios … [19659006] 1. Peggy's children were adopted

If so, they would be born anyway, so Cape did not threaten them. Alas, even if it is a plausible scenario, we have no reason to think that this is the case. (Again, apart from playing the probabilities, we have no particular reason to badume that this is not the case …)

2. Captain America reunited with Peggy after the birth of his children

We do not know exactly when Captain America met Peggy in the past. It could have been right after World War II and they had this dance after all. Or it could have happened in the 1950s, in which case she would have had her two children with her other husband.

Again, this raises the question of what happened to Peggy's husband. We do not see him on the pictures of his nightstand in The Winter Soldier, but perhaps it's because he was already dead from natural causes, or because they had divorced.

Or maybe he just went back in time and prevented Peggy from meeting. this other guy, sending this person on a completely new path that may (or may not be) a positive change for them. It's hard to say, but the issues raised by Cape's actions – whatever they are exactly – are undeniably complicated, morally and concretely.

The rest of the world

We have no way of knowing how this alternate reality has taken shape (yet), but the consequences of Cape life lived in the past with Peggy Carter raise many other thorny moral issues.

After all, he has already created an alternative reality in which he happily marries love. of his life. Would Captain America really stop there?

He knows that there is a secret society of fascists hiding under the American government, on the premises of his wife.

He knows that his best friend, Bucky, was kidnapped by the Soviets and brainwashed to become the perfect badbadin.

He knows Thanos is coming for the Infinity Stones. He knows what they are and what they do and, in some cases, exactly where they are. He is aware of the badbadination of JFK and 9/11. Does he have the moral responsibility to do anything about these events? Do not they have the moral responsibility not to do it because changing the future could have other dire consequences?

After all, Dr. Strange said that there was only a future on millions in which Thanos did not succeed in his diabolical plans. What happens if Cap changes all the pieces on the board? Is not it possible that its entire reality is doomed?

Sense versus Sensitivity

Of course, each travelogue is accompanied by numerous moral, ethical and logistical problems. Avengers: Endgame is no exception. And although the filmmakers have stated that the return to the future is particularly absurd, as far as the theory of time travel theory is concerned, they have fallen back on the same narrative narrative device. They chose the most satisfying end emotionally, even though it poses many troubling questions.

We do not intend to think too long about the Cape Finals, because what really matters is that he saved the world – a lot – and that he l? has done at the cost of a huge personal sacrifice. He deserves a happy ending and he has one. Peaceful, romantic, satisfying.

If we delve too much into the details of how he got that happy ending, we will be unhappy. Either he made decisions that hurt people visibly or inadvertently, or literally everything went perfectly. One can argue that one of the scenarios is more likely than the other, since it is already admitted that it is a genetically modified super soldier who is come back in time to deliver magical space stones.

In the end, we do not do it. I do not know that Captain America did something with worrying consequences, no matter how likely. All the rest is pure speculation, and the place of landing is probably more of a Rorschach test than a meaningful one. You can think the best of it or the worst, and anyway we do not have enough information to prove to you that you are right or wrong.

But we can speculate and we can ask ourselves, and we can at least say with some certainty that the fact that the Endgame's Avengers: Final were also shaking the tears was also strange enough to make us talk.
