During the Television Critics Association's ongoing 2019 press tour in California, Amazon Prime Video revealed more details about the Russo brothers, best known for leading Avengers: Infinity War and the upcoming Avengers: Endgame: which was announced for the first time last June. Jennifer Salke, director of Amazon Studios, said the franchise's first TV show would be "an action-packed and character-centered spy series, with an appealing emotional focus," followed by of "several series in connected local language", with the first two are in India and Italy. Local artists will work on these spin-offs, which will focus on the dual lives of spies.
"These shows will be placed under the umbrella of the Russos and the creative team, but they will have their own local team of creators and writers. these shows, "Salke said during the event. "They are organic and attract the local market there, but they will inform and be part of the biggest global show that is a spying series of English-speaking world-wide. We just think that soon there is a world where these successful series can come from anywhere. They can break in and come from countries where English is not the language. "
" I'll give you an example, I'm inventing it, "Salke told TheWrap later, explaining how broadcasts would connect." So let's say there's an Indian show you are watching, a show you love in India, and it's an Indian doctor and she's married to a guy and they have three kids, and you realize that she is followed, and then you discover that she is actually living a double life. So you begin to follow the thread of this story, but this character really exists in the big show. So you take people – without saying much about it – you take people's lives, their real life that they live every day, and that other life they have as spies. And you will see that they live somehow in two spaces.
Salke added that there would be "at least two more [spin-offs]" that would join their Indian and Italian counterparts and that production would start later this year.
The main "international tentpole" show is reminiscent of Jack Ryan, who is also on Amazon, although his concept is much broader. Josh Appelbaum, André Nemec, Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner will work as scriptwriters and executive producers alongside Joe and Anthony Russo. Appelbaum and Nemec have written the reboot movie of 2014, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, having already worked together on JJ The Abrames alias of 2003-2005, the zoo of 2015-2017, which they have co -créé, and the Netflix series of 2018, Everything Sucks! Rosenberg worked on both Zoo and Everything Sucks !, and Pinkner – a veteran on Fringe – with the other three on Knightfall.
The four companies – Appelbaum, Nemec, Rosenberg and Pinkner – are behind the Midnight Radio production label, which has signed a deal with the Russo brothers' independent AGBO Studios label. Together, they will form a "diverse international team" to produce the untitled project, described by Amazon as "the world's first truly global television franchise." Joe and Anthony will lead several episodes of the main series, including the pilot.
This "multi-series of world events" organized by Amazon will mark the return to television of the Russo brothers, who debuted on the small screen with Arrested Development – winning an Emmy in 2004 – and the community.
