GUWAHATI: Shortly after the badbadination of Assam during the Bharat Ratna's Bharat Ratna celebrations for Bhupen Hazarika, a series of controversies appeared at the center of the scene as critics and supporters were fighting over the legacy of the cultural icon. Opposition leader Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge and Assamese singer Zubeen Garg were trapped between the two men. They both faced FIRs on Sunday for "insulting" Hazarika and his price.

The FIR against Kharge was filed by an RTI activist, while the one against Garg was filed by the vice-president of the BJP state unit, Satya Ranjan Borah.

Kharge stated that the Center had chosen "a singer" (Hazarika) and a "man who propagated the ideology of the RSS" (Nanaji Deshmukh) on the spiritual leader Shivakumara Swami, the recently deceased seer of Lingayat, for the Bharat Ratna.

Zubeen went on Facebook on Sunday to inquire about the moment of honor for the music maestro. He recently joined the movement against the Citizenship Bill.
