An official biopic about Nobel laureate Mother Teresa was announced Monday. Written and directed by Seema Upadhyay, the film will have a cast of Indian and international actors.

It will be produced by Pradeep Sharma, Nitin Manmohan, Girish Johar and Prachi Manmohan.

The creators met Sister Prema Mary Pierick, current Superior General of the Missionaries of Charity, and Sister Lynne in Kolkata recently to solicit their blessings for the project on the life of the iconic nun who came from Albania to India in 1929 and founded the Missionaries of Charity in 1948.

Upadhyay said in a statement: "We visited the Missionaries of Charity in Kolkata and the experience was surreal."

Producers are thrilled to put together a film about Mother Teresa, known around the world for her nobility and charity.

"She is a world icon and we will make every effort to respect her international status and honor our noble soul, and hope that we will do justice and spread the message of peace, Love and humanity that defends Mother Teresa, "said the producers in a joint statement.

The project script has been locked. The technicians and teams are being finalized, after which the cast will begin so that the film can be projected on the ground by the end of this year.
