BJP received 86% of all donations to political parties in 2017-18

The BJP alone received 167,167 crore or 86.59% of the total donations received. political parties in 2017-18 belonging to Electoral Trusts, which are not-for-profit corporations incorporated for political financing.

According to a report of the Association for Democratic Reforms or ADR issued Wednesday, four other parties – the Congress, Biju Janata Dal (BJD), Party of Nationalist Congress (NCP) and National Conference of Jammu-and- Kashmir (JKNC) – Collectively received 25.98 crores of rupees during the same period.

In the last fiscal year (2016-17), the BJP received 290,290 rupees. 89.22% of total donations received by all political parties from election trusts.

There are currently 22 registered electoral trusts formed by various houses and industrial enterprises.

According to the report, the cautious Electoral Trust Fund of Oned 154.30 crores of rupees and the general general election fund AB donated 12 crores of rupees to the BJP.

The Electoral Commission entrusted the trusts formed after January 2013 to submit an annual report containing the details of the contributions received and paid by them to the political parties. ADR had also asked the Electoral Commission to instruct trusts formed before January 2013 to submit their contribution reports.
