Brightburn Movie Review – Is It Better Than Its Score Of Rotten Tomatoes?

Critics are divided on Brightburn, co-written by James Gunn, but is it good? Well, if you know what you plan to do, you will live up to your expectations.

The subjects of the plot

is exactly what is defined here: take a Superman page (in fact, Superboy) and give it a macabre, twist slasher that you might find in Elseworlds. Kansas couple the Breyers (Elizabeth Banks and David Denman) have trouble conceiving in the mid-2000s; then one night, an extraterrestrial spaceship containing a child in free fall lands behind their farm and takes it as an answer to their prayers. Today, and their son, Brandon (Jackson Dunn), matures and displays an exceptional intellect for his age, as well as other unique and deadly traits. And his boat? A scenario similar to that of another Gunn film, Slither, is followed, but it is far from being so funny. That's up to the post-credit scene where we find an indispensable cameo from Michael Rooker as an Alex Jones type personality. During the series of diegetic events, Brightburn opts for a simple premise, that of Rosemary, the baby who has growth pains, who encounters an alien invasion, which sometimes channels The Strangers. The most strained scenes are those where Brandon tracks down someone in his house or in the forest with a minimum of synthetic effects.

Although things are turning out to be essential, they do not leave much sympathy to Brandon, especially once he's becoming a mega-threat. An introverted and clumsy child at first, in the blink of an eye, he does not act with much remorse or gray areas for his personality. It's a living weapon, not very kind, and that's about it. You feel more prey to whoever gets in his way, most of them just trying to do what's right.

We have made it clear from the start that we are dealing with Brandon. Sitting in clbad, her advanced extraterrestrial intelligence allows her to deeply explain the difference between ordinary bees and invasive wasps. The parallel is out in the open so that we can see it. Gunn and director David Yerovesky's head is no longer equivocal, even though Brandon's parents continue to be amazed that their son comes from space, despite everything, before it's too late.

Gore Effects

Those who love this movie predict it for its gore and these moments are well done and well distributed. They begin modestly with Brandon breaking a young girl's arm and the consequences of slaughtering cattle, but become more elaborate, lingering on glbad stuck in an eyeball and jaw.
