ATTARI: The Border Security Force (BSF) on Saturday offered sweets to Pakistani rangers to mark the 70th anniversary of Republic Day.

At a brief ceremony at the Attari-Wagah joint checkpoint at the international border gates of the two countries, BSF officers and soldiers offered treats to their counterparts from the Pakistan Rangers.

Treats were also exchanged at the international border at Hussainiwala in Ferozepur and in the districts of Fazilka.

The BSF refused to offer Ranger treats on Republic Day because of tensions between the two countries due to unprovoked shootings at the border between the Pakistani side along the international border and the LoC (Line of Control) in Jammu and Kashmir.

In the afternoon, thousands of people gathered in Attari to attend the retreat ceremony which takes place every night at the joint Attari-Wagah checkpoint to mark the closing doors for the night.

The dancers of Bhangra and Gidda captivate the audience while patriotic songs reinforce the atmosphere on this occasion.

Varun Dhawan, Bollywood actor, and director-choreographer Remo D 'Souza, who are in Amritsar for the filming of the dance film "ABCD-3", also went on places to attend the ceremony.
