A research conducted by scientists from Rice University, published in the journal Advanced Materials, confirmed the benefits of using carbon nanotubes.
They discovered that carbon nanotube films produced high-power, fast-charging lithium metal batteries, which were a useful substitute for commonly used lithium-ion batteries. Dendrites that develop from unprotected lithium metal anodes into batteries and can, over time, pierce the battery's electrolyte core and reach the cathode, eventually resulting in failure of the battery. drums.

According to another principal investigator, Rodrigo Salvatierra, physical contact with lithium metal reduces the nanotube film and equilibrates by adding lithium ions.

When the battery is in use, the film releases stored ions and the underlying lithium anode fills it, which helps maintain the film's ability to completely stop the growth of dendrites.
The test revealed that a film of nanotubes effectively destroyed dendrites on 580 charge / discharge cycles of a test battery when used with a sulfide carbon cathode.
