Charlotte Flair became the women's champion for the eighth time on March 26th. Flair competed against Asuka on SmackDown Live and defeated The Empress of Tomorrow for the women's title.
The fans were shocked but the live audience instantly jumped for the queen. There was no prior warning, no accumulation and apparently no reason to withdraw the title of Asuka. The legendary Nature Boy Ric Flair, Charlotte's father, congratulated her daughter on Twitter and the new champion answered "Midway".
It was obvious that Charlotte was referring to her father's 16 world championships in the field of professional wrestling. While her tweet was probably ironic, Charlotte's comments raise an interesting question.
Will the new SmackDown win the title eight more times? The title reign of Nature Boy came at a very different time than business, of course. So maybe there is no comparison possible. The same could be said of the 16 world championships of John Cena.
However, when it comes to women's wrestling, the idea of a 16-time world champion is quite a territory without a charter. But if anyone can get close to that number, it is highly likely that Charlotte Flair. Of course, her first women's title was won in 2015, which means she has won seven in just three years. For many fans, that's why the title wins mean nothing and Charlotte Flair may not be anything else. d, s, id) {var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName (s) [0]; if (d.getElementById (id)) {return;} js = d.createElement (s); js.id = id; js.src = "http://connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.6";
