STREETERVILLE – Empire star Jussie Smollett said he was brutally attacked Tuesday morning during a racist ambush in the central district of Streeterville, authorities said.
Chicago police only stated that the victim of the 36-year-old morning attack was an actor of "Empire," but TMZ said it was about Smollett, who plays the main character Jamal Lyon in the series. "Empire" in Chicago.

According to the Chicago Tribune, "a letter containing an anti-gay epithet and white powder" was sent to Cinespace Chicago Film Studios, where "Empire" is filmed last week. The powder was not considered dangerous, but the FBI investigation.
Police asked anyone with information about the attack to call detectives at 312-747-8382.
GLAAD, an organization dedicated to helping LGBTQ people, said in a tweet that "this attack must be the subject of a thorough investigation". and acts of violence against LGBTQ people have increased.
