LOS ANGELES – Childish rapper Childish Gambino won the Grammy for best video on Sunday for his video clip "This Is America" on gun violence and racism.
Gambino – The alter ego of comedian Donald Glover – was Janelle Monae, futurist of pop and the first couple of music, Beyonce and Jay-Z, were favorites of the category.
The disturbing video "This is America" took the Internet by storm last spring, recording more than 35 million views on YouTube in just two days.
The rapper offers a dark vision of black life in the United States, contrasting brutal images of chaotic violence and references to the legacy of slavery with merry Afrobeat rhythms and a gospel choir . The 35-year-old wins his Grammy Award for the second time overall, after his hit "Redbone" won the R & B Traditional Best Performance Award last year.
Childish Gambino won 12 career appointments. Disc price of the year coveted Sunday.
As an actor and producer, this California-born artist was hailed by critics for his surreal comedy drama series "Atlanta", in which he starred.
