According to The New Zealand Herald, Icon Film Distribution said the film would not be screened in any of New Zealand's theaters. In addition, all promotional and advertising activities related to Hotel Mumbai were also suspended.
"After consulting the partners of the local exhibition, it was decided to suspend the film out of respect for countries in mourning," reads the statement.

Hotel Mumbai is a 2018 thriller directed by Anthony Maras and written by John Collee and Maras. Based on the 2009 documentary Surviving Mumbai on the Mumbai bombings in 2008 at the Taj Mahal Hotel in Mumbai, the film features Dev Patel, Armie Hammer, Nazanin Boniadi, Anupam Kher, Tilda Cobham- Hervey and Jason Isaac others in pivotal roles.
The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 7, 2018 and was also shown in Australia at the Adelaide Film Festival later in the year. The film had an opening all over the country last Thursday, but after the attacks on the Christchurch Mosque on Friday, screenings are suspended until March 28 in Australia.
Regarded as one of the worst attacks on Muslims in this country, New Zealand's premier Jacinda Ardern announced that 40 people had been killed during the shooting in two mosques in Christchurch on Friday, adding that four suspects were in custody.
