Bala would be the third film to feature Ayushmann Khurrana and Bhumi Pednekar in the lead. The two actors have already played the lead roles in Shubh Mangal Saavdhan (2017) and Dum Laga Ke Haisha (2016), which was also Bhumi Pednekar's first film. Both films have been acclaimed by critics and have had box office success.
Meanwhile, a sequel to Shubh Mangal Saavdhan is also in preparation.
