Review: Open defecation is a huge problem that India faces and has already been addressed in a film last year. So when Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra decides to shoot another movie on the same subject, you can hope that he will have something more to say. What is it? Almost. While the previous film was a love story in which a husband is working on the building of toilets for his wife, we have here a young boy named Kanhu (Om Kanojiya) who wishes to do the same for his mother. In his quest for toilets, he wrote a letter to the Prime Minister and traveled to Delhi from Mumbai, accompanied by his motley crew, Ringtone (Adarsh Bharti) and Nirala (Prasad), to deliver the letter to the Prime Minister.
The first thing the filmmaker avoids is to politicize the issue, as have made other films on the subject, which in itself is a laudable thing. It focuses instead on the story that elevates the film from the role of propaganda machine
The most important part of the film is the casting. The young actors do a solid job and totally steal the show. Anjali Patil too, as a sterile but loving mother, plays her role very well and her performances are first rate. The purchased music, Shankar Ehsaan Loy, is light and fits perfectly with the mood of the film, as are Gulzar's lyrics.
The weakest part of the movie seems to be the story. Their trip to Delhi, to which the children are involved, could have been a little more interesting, since it is a big problem for a group of miners to take such a long trip, but the filmmaker does not spend much time there. . Moreover, even after selling hashish in the slum and posing as corpses to attract tourists and make money, the children still have their wonder and innocence intact. Without these little hiccups, the film is a series of scenes of life featuring a child who loves his mother and who wants his life to be a little better.
