Here are the highlights from last week's interview with CBS Sports' State of Combat podcast with Daniel Bryan, in which he discusses his character in the "New Daniel Bryan" heel, how it happened and how he feels about this aspect. He also talked about some opponents that he would really like to fight at WWE …
• About what he thinks about his career now: I really feel like I'm the Better than I've ever been and I'm really enjoying it … When I came back, there were such expectations from people who wanted me to be old Daniel Bryan. "We want the song of" Yes! "And the same gestures that we had before." This kind of expectations, its weight can crush you (19459016) the expectations you have with yourself. Wrestling has always been my best way to get out and fight in the way I want, instead of other people's expulsions. I thought old Daniel Bryan was becoming obsolete as the same character as in 2014. It's a brand new Daniel Bryan, that's why I'm called "the new Daniel Bryan!" (Laughs)
• wanting to make sure that her character has evolved well: It was almost as if we were telling the same story that we had already told. It's a completely new story. What I love in the art of professional wrestling is the same thing: it happens sometimes in comics, sometimes it is not the case, the character's ability to evolve. Some characters do not evolve and do not stay the same years after years, which has never been my interest. Since 2012, I really interested in the development of the character and its evolution, as well as the reason why it would happen. I had been frustrated by the lack of evolution of my character. This new character really stimulates me mentally.
• On the way the new Daniel Bryan has materialized: You must understand that it was a decisive day. The fact that I am a bad guy was a decisive day. I thought about it because I was working with Miz and I started to understand that, hey, the wind is turning for me to be a good guy and that eventually, there will be people who will get tired of me in In the same way, people were fed up with John Cena and all that stuff. The wind will turn and it will finally be another type [inaudible] … and that's the last thing I wanted to do. I arrive on the day of and things are happening and it was a day of decision. After that, wow, I'm completely blank, I can do what I want now. Well, I have to get the agreement from the company! Ha. But I know, like, it's my opportunity. I really imagined how I wanted to fight and all that stuff, but as I got older, I had to reimagine the way I wanted to fight, the character that I wanted to create and the stories I wanted to tell, and that's what I wanted to do. was a way to do everything. of that. So it's really fun because the character has evolved since the beginning of the round because it has become what works and what does not work. It's fun for me. What worked this week, what will work and what will not work next week, this whole process, it is fun and attractive to me and that is what really excites me.
• On the question of whether the "white meat babyfaces" work at this time: No, I think 100 percent there is a place with that, but it has to be presented correctly. A man, a baby white meat face you're talking about can not be portrayed as a loser or a dork or when a figure of authority tells them that "we'll fired you if you do that" and that they hang their heads. and go "Awwww". If you want a good character that people like and that he has something you believe in, and that they will fire him, then say, "Send me back, okay, I'll look for a job elsewhere. In the end, with these kind of characters, it's still a white foil football character, but you have to present it correctly. I do not think it's impossible, but I think we do not present it in the best way possible.
• If his new heel character draws from his previous run as a stub in ROH or is completely new and reinvented: Well, so it's a complete reinvention of the point of view characters, but it would be impossible not to tap into the past. Hey, this thing really works, so I'll do it here. No one is completely reinventing themselves, not even Chris Jericho, the reinventing king. I think it's a completely new character. What's interesting to me is what Daniel Bryan's character says. These are things that I really think, they do not concern other people, they are too. Environmentalists, being tough on people about the environment, I do not sit there thinking, like, [inaudible]. I'm like, man, we just moved out and we look at all the garbage we have. I am supposed to be environmentally conscious and can I do better? It's even more serious. Use this mindset to tell people that they are the problem, knowing that I am also the problem. (Laughs) And maybe that's why I'm such a fun and hateful character, because I tell people that they're the problem and that "I'm clearly not the problem, I am the solution. I say, when I say it, I think of myself more than anything else. One of the things that really disappointed me was veganism [moving from] to vegetarianism. For most people, the difference is minor, but for me, it's a major difference. That's one of the things I'm trying to come back to, it's 100% vegan, just knowing we did all that is awful, with the fact that we've created hot dog stuff with AJ Styles. last weeks. It's just the idea, even if you do not kill chickens to get the egg, a lot of eggs in this country, the chickens are kept in such horrible conditions and that sort of thing. I say a lot of these things that I do not shout to others: "Hey, stop warming up the eggs!", I tell myself, I should stop eating eggs on the road. I mean, it's an easy excuse or whatever, a lot of these things are frustrations with myself because I know the consequences and the other things. The whole thing was interesting.
• On wrestlers he would like to fight at WWE: It's impossible to reduce it to two or three. I would like to make a story with Brian Kendrick because we have an amazing story together. My first match was with Kendrick. He is on 205 Live. I would like to do something with Cesaro. I would also like to do a whole thing with Andrade. I think Andrade is just awesome. Andrade and Rey Mysterio had an amazing match last week. I would like to make a hair mask story with Rey. What about Gran Metalik, then Ricochet. Then you lead this whole range of people because WWE has engaged such incredible artists. There are so many talented people on the list that it's impossible to name a couple. I have listed several. (laughs) So, there are many more, you know what I mean?
