Los Angeles : The filmmaker The Darkest Hour, Joe Wright, is in talks to prepare a new drama of the time, an adaptation of In the Garden of Animals. Wright, also known for his adaptations on Atonement, Pride & Prejudice and Anna Karenina, will direct the film for Tom Hanks' StudioCbad and Playtone Productions, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Larson's non-fiction best-seller had already been bought before. Hanks and Gary Goetzman will produce via the duo's Playtone banner. Hanks envisioned the project as a potential vehicle, although the role is not yet defined.

The book tells the true story of William Dodd, reluctant and moderate US ambbadador to Germany in 1933, and his daughter. Martha, a living socialite who had romantic relationships with a Gestapo official and a Soviet spy. Dodd and her family first sailed naively in Nazi Germany (Dodd's daughter was excited when Adolf Hitler kissed her by hand), but they slowly became aware of the growing brutality around them.
