Death of veteran playwright Girish Karnad

Veteran playwright and actor Girish Karnad died Monday at the age of 81 after a long illness in Bengaluru.

The actor made his last breath due to multiple organ failures. The writers received the Jnanpith Award, Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan. He is known as a playwright and his plays, written in Kannada, have been translated into English and some Indian languages. Karnad has mainly worked in Bollywood films and has also contributed immensely to cinemas in southern India.
