Denver City Council approves project for a secure injection site and requires final state approval

DENVER – Denver City Council voted 12-1 to approve a plan to build a safe injection site in the Mile High City.

However, steps still need to be taken to actually open one in Denver. The state legislature will have to pbad a law allowing public funds to fund sites in Colorado.

Supervised injection sites are supposed to allow drug users from a supervised place to consume hard drugs like heroin and cocaine. This would also prevent drug users from consuming in public places and advocates of this idea claim that these sites also reduce illnesses and save lives of drug overdoses.

If the final approval was approved, Denver would be among the US cities to own the sites.
