A video of inmates drinking and making an extortion call inside the Raebareli District Prison, in Uttar Pradesh, is widely shared on social media, prompting authorities to suspend six prison officials.

Prison officials searched the barracks on November 21, during which four cell phones were found. were recovered from the detainees in the video. The prison director had also filed a first information report against the detainees and other unidentified persons for breaking prison standards and introducing prohibited items inside the prison.
On November 25, Raebareli District Magistrate and Police Commissioner conducted a separate search in which several contraband items such as cigarettes, lighters, sweets and dried fruits were found in different barracks.
