A few years ago, it was not expected that women-led films would report to the box office en mbade. However, actresses like Kangana Ranaut have changed that. From the number of Rs 100 crore films to the largest number of one-day collections for a film directed by a woman, Kangana is clearly ahead of the pack. There are rumors that actress 'Queen' has received an offer of Rs 24 crore for Jayalalithaa's biopic, which is apparently the highest of all Bollywood actors for a Southern company.
On Kangana's birthday day, it was announced that she had signed the bilingual legendary actress turned politician. Entitled "Thalaivi" in Tamil and "Jaya" in Hindi, the film is directed by Vijay, considered one of the most accomplished filmmakers in the South, and written by KV Vijayendra Prasad.
According to reports, Kangana is paid 24 crores for the bilingual project, which will be conducted in Hindi and Tamil. Policymakers believe his star power will help reach a pan-Indian audience. Producers have already signed a contract with her.
Another notable aspect of the project is that, whenever Hindi artists have shot Southern films, they have always shared the screen space with a local star. But in this case, Kangana will take the lead of the film while the film revolves around the course of his character. Many other accomplished actresses, such as Vidya Balan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, would also have been considered for this role. However, the producers decided to sign Kangana and she also immediately agreed to be part of the film as she closely followed the life of the former chief minister of Tamil Nadu.
Kangana is currently working on "Mental Hai Kya" and "Panga" by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari. She will start working on Jayalalithaa's biopic.
