Another notable aspect of the project is that, whenever Hindi artists have shot Southern films, they have always shared the screen space with a local star. But in this case, Kangana will take the lead of the film while the film revolves around the course of his character. Many other accomplished actresses, such as Vidya Balan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, would also have been considered for this role. However, the producers decided to sign Kangana and she also immediately agreed to be part of the film as she closely followed the life of the former chief minister of Tamil Nadu.
