Does True Detective Season 3 intersect with Season 1?

True Detective had a first epic season and a second season that we would like to forget. We are now at the knees of season 3 and things are going well, partly because the series has returned to the scary atmosphere of the south of the first season. But the similarities can go beyond that. For example, watch the trailer for the new episode of this Sunday, "If you have ghosts":
