Hollywood celebrities and public figures took Monday on social media to pay tribute to Doris Day. The singer and actress died Monday in her home in Carmel Valley, California. She was 97 years old.
The Doris Day Animal Foundation announced its death in a press release. She "had been in excellent physical health for her age and had contracted until recently a severe case of pneumonia, resulting in her death," the paper says.

Sarah Jessica Parker paid tribute to the actress by posting a number of photos of Day on her Instagram account. "Oh Mrs. Day, a girl from Cincinnati like me, how many letters I wrote you and did not send," she wrote. Carl Reiner tweeted that he was "saddened" to hear the news of Day's death. He wrote The Thrill Of It All in which Day played. "Just a week ago, I contacted her and welcomed her to the 97-year-old actor's club," he said.
Paul McCartney wrote in a statement that he was "so sad to hear" at Day's death.
"She was a real star in more ways than one," he added.
