Motor Desmosedici Stradale R

The Desmosedici Stradale R – the link between the V4 of 1 103 cm3 on the
Panigale V4 and the MotoGP engine – takes the performance limits for a
legal road motor at unprecedented heights. Designed originally to compete in
the Superbike championships, this engine has undergone many changes
this makes it even more similar to the one used in MotoGP.

The Panigale V4 R engine can deliver 221 hp (162 kW) at 15,250 rpm and
112 Nm of torque at 11,500 rpm (EU approval values). He has a 14: 1
compression ratio and the rev limiter is set at 16,000 rpm (16,500 rpm in the sixth
equipment). These figures – impressive for a 998cc engine – can be taken even
higher up by equipping the Ducati Performance exhaust of Akrapovic,
which increases the maximum power to 234 hp (172 kW) at 15,500 rpm.

Like the Desmosedici Stradale, the R version is a 90 ° V4 with cylinders.
inclined 42 ° from the horizontal, a Twin Pulse firing order and a
crankshaft against rotation *. Designed to be a fully stressed member of the
vehicle, the engine maintains a bore of 81 mm while the stroke has been increased to
48.4 mm thanks to the new forged steel crankshaft that moves four con
stems with a center to center of 104.3 mm: each is 100 g lighter than the
those steel used on the Panigale V4.

The pistons are made of die-cast aluminum and have a single compression ring, as well as
an oil ring and enjoy the technology "box in box": it contains both
the height of the skirt and the thickness under the chamber, helping to reduce attrition and
loads of inertia while maintaining the necessary strength and rigidity.

Equipped with specific profiles, the four camshafts Desmosedici Stradale R
increase the lift relative to the Desmosedici Stradale and move the
sixteen valves (titanium intake valves Ø 34 mm, steel exhaust Ø 27.5 mm
valves). The valves have titanium half-cones, a generally adopted solution
only on racing bikes. Design dedicated to the fluid dynamics of the R engine cylinder
heads have led to the development of new, larger intake ducts.

The new crankshaft – 1,100 grams less than the Panigale V4
– is mounted on brbad bushings and keeps the 70 ° crankpin shifted together
with the V-shaped motor arrangement at 90 degrees. This solution generates what Ducati calls a
Twin Pulse ignition order, because it's like if the engine was reproducing the
shot sequence of a two-cylinder. The particularity lies in the fact that
the two left cylinders pull together, as do the two right cylinders
each. On the timing diagram, the ignition points are then at 0 °, 90 °, 290 ° and
380 °. This firing order makes the sound of the V4 identical to that of the MotoGP
Desmosedici.

The Desmosedici Stradale R engine swallows the air by an oval butterfly
body and aerodynamic butterfly openings (Ø 56 mm equivalent, an increase of 4
mm) connected to height-adjustable air intake horns of dedicated length. This solution
optimizes cylinder intake over the entire rev range, providing major benefits
terms of power delivery and handling. The R engine breathes through a
Sprintfilter P08 air filter with high permeability.

Thanks to the development in close collaboration with Ducati Corse, the
The Desmosedici Stradale engine version has undergone numerous
performance improvements. To limit the power absorption of oil delivery
the pump has been redesigned and the rotor of the alternator has been lightened, allowing another
100 grams on the total weight of the bike.

* However, in the race, there is no
as a free meal: this configuration of course requires the addition of the
"drive shaft" to transfer the crankshaft drive through the gearbox to
rear wheel so it turns in the right direction. The jackshaft adds an additional transmission
element of the crankshaft-wheel connection system. This must be taken into account
consideration when establishing the power of the crankshaft if the latter is obtained from
measurements made at the wheel. During the approval and measurement on
acceleration test benches, it is therefore necessary to consider an efficiency
or, in any case, an additional factor fixed by law at 0.98.

Aero Pack of Ducati Corse

The Aerodynamic Panigale V4 R & # 39; shell & # 39; was developed by Ducati Corse in
close collaboration with the Ducati Style Center; the result is a fairing
true Panigale style that fully meets the official needs of the Ducati Superbike.

As in MotoGP, the aerodynamic development required a series of
CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) studies, followed by optimized formatting and a
Model of large scale wind tunnel.

The aerodynamic package of the Panigale V4 R includes:

  • · Screen, nose fairing and larger side fairings
  • ] Compared to the Panigale V4, the new screen – higher and more inclined –
provides better airflow protection for runners, especially in the helmet and
upper areas of the shoulders. The screen is attached to a new nose fairing that is
higher and wider (+15 mm per side) in the arm protection area to reduce
Drag induced by the arms and shoulders on straight lines.

The side fairings were considerably enlarged (+38 mm per side).
for the dual purpose of reducing the impact of airflow on the pilot and maximizing aerodynamic blades

On the sides, the elegant ventilation grills of the Panigale V4 have been
replaced by more efficient ones designed to handle race-like temperatures
reached by the more powerful engine of the Ducati Panigale V4 R. This news
The vents increase the speed of air circulation on water and oil radiators by 6% and 16%.

The biggest change on the Panigale V4 R – which defines aesthetics
bike – comes from the wings. Conceptually derived from those used on the
GP16 (before sheet forms are subject to regulatory limits), the wings of the
The Panigale V4 R are actually more effective than those used in MotoGP.

These single-element single-plane wings have a trapezoidal arrangement with
conical profile from root to tip. Wing performance has been improved thanks to
the insertion of the longitudinally arranged strake and the winglet which
"Isolates" the flow of air on its surfaces.

Working together with the design of the fairing, the wings increase overall
down support (+30 kg to 270 km / h). Greater strength of support reduces the "flutter" of the front wheel
at high speed and tendency to soar; it also enhances stability during
braking at the turning point and in the bend.

This dynamic behavior allows runners – against a slight increase in direction
torque caused by increased stability – reducing their turn times as it reduces
electronic control intervention, helping runners keep the throttle
longer and later, even when the turn has already begun.

    Optimized for the race
    frame mounting

    Frame

The front frame of the Panigale V4 R differs from that of the V4 S not only because
it's black. Especially, its lighter and machined sides ensure the realization of the

be adjusted (it has 4 positions, 2 mm from each other). This pivot
widens the adjustment range so that the bike can be adapted more precisely to each
driving styles and road / track conditions.

    Suspension

Since the Panigale V4 R was designed for almost exclusive use on the race.
tracks, she does not ride the suspension Öhlins semi-active event-based view on
the V4 S, but rather the professional mechanical units of the Swedish company.

At the forefront, the Panigale V4 R mounts a new exclusive pressurized Öhlins 43
NPX fork 25/30 mm with TiN treatment and rear shock absorber Öhlins TTX36
absorber. Both have a mechanical fit. The Öhlins steering damper
abandons the electronic adjustment in favor of a mechanical alternative.

Compared to the NIX 30 model of the Panigale V4 S, the new NPX 25/30
uses a pressure damping system that is an emanation of the one used on Öhlins
WSB racing forks. Compared to a traditional system, a pressure system minimizes
the risk of cavitation of oil, providing better absorption of bumps, pits and
ripples while ensuring excellent braking stability and support to give the
    better feeling of the pilot.

Like the Öhlins forks used in MotoGP, compression damping occurs
the left fork tube and uses a Ø 25 mm piston. Rebound damping instead,
in the right fork tube, uses a Ø 30 mm tube. Designed and machined specifically
the fork bodies save an additional 600 g compared to the forks of the Panigale V4
    S.

To complete the badembly of the suspension, the bike is equipped with the same aluminum "total black".

    Electronics

    Last generation
    electronic controls

The Panigale V4 R is equipped with the latest generation electronics
package that controls each stage of the race via a 6-axis Bosch inertia
    platform (6D IMU – Inertial
Unit of measure). The latter includes a revised intervention logic to adapt to
    the needs of professional runners.

The Panigale V4 R Electronic Control Unit includes:

    · Bosch
    ABS EVO in turns

    · Ducati
    EVO Traction Control (DTC) EVO

    · Ducati Slide
    Control (DSC)

    · Ducati
    Wheelie Control EVO (DWC) EVO

    · Ducati Power
    Launch (DPL)

    · Ducati
Quick Shift Up / Down EVO (DQS) EVO

    · Engine
    Brake Control EVO (EBC) EVO

The operating parameters of each of these commands are badociated with
default with all three driving modes Panigale V4 R. Control DTC, DWC, DSC or EBC
Levels can be adjusted quickly via the left switch.

    ABS ABS Corner Bosch EVO

The Bosch ABS System with Cornering Function allows the operation of ABS even
with the bike leaned over. Bosch Cornering ABS EVO can be set to three
different levels to fully meet the needs of all runners.

While level 3 is recommended for low grip conditions, levels 2 and 1
accentuate the braking power and are intended to be used on very adherent surfaces.

Selecting Level 2 activates the Brake Drag function which allows
the riders drive the bike around corners safely.

Recommended for professional runners, level 1 of the ABS limit
the front brake only, but retains the Cornering function to allow super-hard
braking until turning over and recovery from any driving error.

    Ducati traction control
    EVO (DTC) EVO

The DTC EVO interface with the 6-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU),
constantly measuring the angle of inclination and using it to accurately calculate the
degree of intervention needed to ensure proper rear wheel slip
    DTC EVO level adjustment).

Set to level 1 or 2, the DTC EVO activates the Spin on Demand function.
This allows the cyclist to use the throttle with the motorcycle leaning to ask
more skating than what would be the normal level of intervention for the bike
can pivot around its front wheel and complete the cornering line taken.

The DTC EVO not only acts on ignition and injection, but also on
Opening the throttle body valve for greater fluidity during rapid action
    control is not necessary.

    Ducati Slide Control (DSC)

This new system was co-developed with Ducati Corse.
provides the runner with additional support by controlling the torque delivered by
the motor according to the slip angle; its purpose is to improve
exceptional performance in preventing slip angles that might otherwise
    to be difficult to manage.

DSC has two different settings: move from level 1
Level 2 makes it easier to control slip angles that would otherwise be
    difficult to manage.

Like the DTC EVO, the DSC controls torque reduction by acting
on the throttle body valves, decreasing the advance to ignition and reducing the injection.

    Ducati Wheelie Control EVO
    (DWC) EVO

The Panigale V4 R is also equipped with the latest version of Ducati
Wheelie Control EVO (DWC EVO). Thanks to the information provided by the IMU
6D, DWC EVO provides more accurate wheel arch readings; he therefore exercises more
Precise control so that the bike responds more quickly to the demands of the driver.

    Ducati Power Launch (DPL)

This 3-level system ensures fast and safe starts, leaving the
biker focuses on loosening the clutch. The Debian Project Manager uses the DWC functions and
always keeps the DTC active to ensure the safety of the competition at all times

The DPL has three different settings and is activated by pressing the
specific key on the right apparatus. Level 1 promotes high performance
begins, level 3 is safer and more stable.

Ducati Quick Shift up / down
    EVO (DQS) EVO

In addition to minimizing lap times, the DQS EVO with up / down function
allows low changes without clutch. The EVO version mounted on the V4 R uses the skinny
information on angles to optimize the stability of the bike when changing gear in corners. This system works seamlessly with
the slip clutch and the engine brake control (EBC) to ensure an optimum ratio
mesh while driving on the edge.

    EVO engine brake control
    (EBC) EVO

EBC (Engine Brake Control) helps cyclists optimize the stability of their bike
extreme conditions of restitution. EBC EVO, optimized according to the angle of inclination,
Monitors throttle body valve position, selected gear and crankshaft
deceleration during aggressive braking and adjusts the throttle opening to balance
the torque applied to the tire.

    New Ducati Driving Mode
    Strategy (RM)

Driving Modes provide users with three predefined driving styles to

track / road and weather conditions.

    Running
    Mode of Conduct
    – RM Course
designed to allow the rider to exploit the full potential of the Panigale V4 R on
high adhesion asphalts. The selection of the race gives the runner 221 hp, with
Ride-by-Wire Accelerator Response. Race mode keeps electronics out

on the front wheel only (but with Cornering always on).

    Sports Driving Sports
RM allows less experienced cyclists to enjoy an efficient and spectacular bike
performance. Again, the engine delivers 221 hp but with a sporty style
Ride-by-Wire Accelerator Response. Brake Slip is enabled, as is
ABS cornering to optimize cornering performance.

    Street
    Mode of Conduct –
    RM Street is
recommended when using the Panigale V4 R on low-friction surfaces or for the public
Highway. This RM still offers 221 horses but, like the RM Sport, it has more
progressive response to the accelerator. The electronic control settings ensure adhesion and
    stability to maximize safety.

    TFT Instrumentation

    The Panigale V4 R uses the same high-tech, high-resolution 5 "technology
Full color TFT display (186.59 PPI – 800xRGBx480) like the Panigale V4. Graphic
have been revised to take account of the introduction of new functions and the
    motor rev red zone.

    The dashboard
is dominated by the virtual rev counter round to the right. Desmosedici
Stradale R laps are displayed in an interval of 1000-16 500 rounds by a needle
gauge. The movement of the latter is accompanied by a white trail that acts as a
color from white to orange to red as the diet limit approaches.

    The rider can
    call two different presentations: "Track & # 39;

makes the towers used on the runway more clearly visible; "Road", instead,
replaces lap times with information on the Ducati Multimedia System (DMS), if available, and
    Suitable for the road.

    Pit Limiter (PIT)

The Panigale V4 R sees the pit limiter making its debut. Once on
(by pressing the corresponding key on the right switchgear) it automatically limits the bike
speed in the pit lane. The speed limit can be set in the range indicated on the
    menu (min 40 km / h, max 80 km / h).

    Ducati Lap Timer GPS (DLT)
    GPS)

The Panigale V4 R dashboard incorporates a stopwatch that contains more than
advanced functions than the Panigale V4. The DLT GPS on the V4 R
automatically detects not only lap times: it can also take two middlemen
times and display them directly on the dashboard at each pbad. If a ride
the time is the best of the current session, the Best Lap feature causes it
blink for 5 seconds. At each turn, the system records not only time but also
also the maximum speed, the maximum speed (actual, detected by GPS), the intermediate times more
    tilt and yaw angles.

    Ducati Data Analyzer
    + GPS (DDA + GPS)

The Ducati + GPS Data Analyzer (DDA + GPS) is used to evaluate the bike.
and driver performance by displaying traces for specific data items. DDA + GPS is a
essential tool for monitoring performance. Not only does it automatically display and
record lap times, it also records other traces of data such as opening the butterfly,
vehicle speed, engine speed, selected speed, engine temperature, distance
    traveled and the DTC trace.

    Ducati Multimedia System
    (DMS)

The Panigale V4 R can be equipped with the Ducati multimedia system (DMS).
This allows users to take incoming calls, select and listen to music or
receive text messages via a Bluetooth link.
