Emilia Clarke was stunned to learn the heartbreaking end of Daenerys Targaryen. She was stunned to discover the dark turn that would take his character before this end. Clarke did not have the easy task of understanding what the character she had come to know and shape intimately during most of her decade.
"I cried and I went for a walk," she told EW of her reaction to the first reading of Season 8. "I got out of the house and I'm out of there. I took my keys and my phone and came home with blisters on my feet. I did not come back five hours later. I wonder how I'm going to do that. »
But she did it. She arrived there; she justified Dany's breaking points, as she had learned to play in a theater school. Before Clarke was the mother of the dragons, she studied drama. It is not shocking to learn that the actress has a background in theater because she obviously puts all her heart, soul and body into her work.
A look at the acting choices that Emilia Clarke made on the death scene of Daenerys Targaryen
In a post-final interview with the New Yorker, Clarke has talked about his filming process of his death scene with his co-star, Kit Harington (Jon Snow).
"As I said, I've always wanted to show that softer side of Daenerys – or more textured. There are always a thousand reasons why anyone reaches a conclusion or says something. We are the product of the experiences we have experienced, and so of all those times when they are a bit like: "She's just brutal, she's cold," I've really tried to bring some kind of lightness. [19659002] I wanted to play a game with what the scene was about. It's not that I want to show it as 'crazy', because I really do not like that word. I do not like fans who call me "The Mad Queen", but she is so far away in grief, trauma and pain. And yet, our brains are fascinating in the way that they find a quick way to feel good, that you depend on a substance or that you are slightly deceived.
If you see abuse in a young person, they are often able to leave the room mentally. I wanted Daenerys to be here. I wanted to show it as we had seen it at the beginning: young, naive, childlike, open and full of love and hope. I wanted so much that this is the last memory of her, "she said.
Clarke said that a lot of reflections were taking place in this final scene, not just of her but also showrunners and the team.
"The scene was certainly under the microscope for a while, it's understandable, but it was poetic and beautiful," she said.
Although the scene is incredibly sad for Clarke (as for us to watch her), she says she feels "very caring" about the death of her character.
"I feel very cared for as a character in this sense," she told EW. "It's a very beautiful and touching ending. Let's hope that what you will see at the last moment of his death is: Vulnerability is – there is the little girl you met in season 1. See? She is right there . And now she's not there anymore … "
