Karl Otto Lagerfeld, one of the most renowned and influential names in the fashion industry, died Tuesday. He was 85 years old. According to a report by the French magazine Closer, the German designer died as a result of a long illness.

Creative director of the luxury French couture house Chanel, Lagerfeld took over this prestigious fashion house in 1983, more than ten years after Coco Chanel had breathed his last breath.
