Sources close to Pinkvilla revealed that the production company had first approached Deepika to play Roop in front of Varun Dhawan, but she refused. Therefore, the role went to Alia who looks very beautiful in every image of the film. Although the reason Deepika refuses the offer is unknown, this would be the first time the duo would meet on the screen.
Deepika takes a break after Padmaavat, where she plays Rani Padmaavati, to focus more on her personal life. The actress then married Ranveer Singh in November 2018 at what one might call a high-level wedding. After a well-deserved break, she is now busy shooting for Meghna Gulzar's Chhapaak, where she plays alongside Vikrant Mbadey. Chhapaak will also see Deepika become a producer for the first time. Alia, on the other hand, did not only shoot for Kalank but also completed Raazi, Gully Boy, Brahmastra, among others, over the last year. In Brahmastra, Alia will be seen alongside Ranbir Kapoor.
