Ace fashion designer Masaba Gupta is the first official Indian designer to become a licensee and commissioner of the official merchandise Game of Thrones . The designer ace will launch her collection exclusively on Star World, Star World HD and Star World Premiere HD during the broadcast of GoT season eight episode 1 tonight at 22h. Congratulations on this huge contract! Since you announced about this collaboration, fans have gone crazy and can not wait to see the collection.
How is this collaboration in place?
Well, Black, White and Orange who is the company that handles HBO goods in India, they contacted us about two years ago and they said they would like us to make the official merchandise and jewelry for Game of Thrones . And I, I just did not know what I would do once that done, you know, how could you really lend the Game of Thrones to clothes? We thought about it and really had a kind of brainstorming. They said that "we know that you, as a brand, are young and that you will probably be interpreted with a lot of pride". So it's exactly what we did and we are here. We have created about 20 to 25 women's clothing, about eight men's looks and jewelry. So everything is inspired not only by a costume of the show, but also by the canvas of the show and by the theme and the backdrop of the show that comes up, so here is the inspiration of the whole collection.
It was for you when you were approached for this huge collaboration?
Yeah, absolutely, I was as though it could not happen. I was like, are you sure? Do you like the Game of Thrones ? It took me a bit of time to register and I think it still has not happened and I do not think that will be the case. I do not think that any team working on the collection also knows what strikes them. They are part of perhaps the biggest TV show on a digital platform in recent years, it's history and we're part of this story so early in our career.
How long did it take you? to create the whole collection GoT ?
I think we have been working on it for a good year. But honestly, the main production and creation of the pieces lasted about three months. But we did a lot of R & D because we wanted to involve as much or include as many accents and elements of the show that we could possibly do. So there is a lot of use of leather, we wanted to make fake leather and not real leather. There was not much of that, but it took us six months in all.
What will be the price of your collection?
We have tried to keep prices close to our affordable luxury. I call him. It will start at around 12,000 to 15,000 rupees and go up. But I think it will be capped at around Rs 45,000 to Rs 50,000 because we did not want to make it too expensive. I'm sure there will be some really lighter t-shirts and clothes, like men's clothes, among others, for which we will be between 8,000 and 10,000 rupees.
What is your number of fans of the show?
I'm a big fan! I mean, it's my mother who spoke to me about the show many years ago and I thought, let's try it. I did not know it and she found that it was amazing. That's how I got started and now I'm a big fan. I think it's one of those shows that connect men, women, young people, seniors, everyone. So, I think it's a very global and very versatile show.
What is your favorite character Game of Thrones in fashion and why?
My favorite character is Arya Stark because the evolution of her character has been phenomenal. Someone who is delicate to a kind more dressed in clothes that is his real being. But I think everyone in the series, like Khaleesi and everyone else, is such a great inspiration. But for me, the biggest source of inspiration was the entire canvas of the exhibition, as I said earlier, the exhibition's palette, the scale of the exhibition was a great source of inspiration.
When you made this announcement, one of the Instagram users commented, "Are you going to create GoTo-themed jewelry or are you going to showcase your collection?"
No, they will not present the collection because they have never been part of the transaction. It's purely inspired by Game of Thrones but it's under license from HBO, so it's something global. We take the collection to London in June and Indonesia. There will be the Indian version of Game of Thrones to see for the world.
Your collection will be exclusively featured on Star World, an experience never seen before. So, how excited are you?
It's exciting! I had just told my office that we had introduced Instagram in 2016, so I wondered how we were going to exceed it because it was a decisive moment for the industry. Nobody had ever done it before, now all designers do it on Instagram. We are now on a larger platform, broadcast on primetime television. Just the fact that Star World supports that and believes it. People who watch television and do not necessarily follow me on Instagram or Twitter will somehow discover the brand that they will discover me. I am delighted because I can not wait and the teaser and the whole video are actually very beautiful.
What is the Bollywood actor who can be your perfect muse for this collection?
Ranveer Singh because he is himself and no one can compete with energy, no one can really wear clothes as scathing, cool and funky as he does without to have the air to make great efforts. He just seems to wake up like that. I think that if it was a woman, Alia Bhatt. I think because she's super feminine but she is very strong. I know that she is a fan of the series. It's one of those people who looks like a chameleon. She changes her style too often and I like it at home. She will do justice to the collection.
When will your collection be available to people?
From the end of the month of April. We will start by sharing the preview on April 16, with teasing. Then we will go all the firearms to the people. How would you describe your career in the fashion industry?
In fact, I would say that it's rather sweet. It's something that I really enjoyed. I think the industry was very welcoming, she just accepted me with both arms. I could not have been more lucky because in 10 years I have been able to do what many designers take 20 to 25 years to do. We have about 11 stores today in all subways. We even have an online presence. Plus, we are a company that has never spent money on marketing. We are very proud of the fact that in 10 years we have managed to create and create not only the label, but also a cult. People can instantly say when it comes to a Masaba outfit, I think it's amazing. It was the goal and I am so happy that it happened.
