Police arrested a fake judicial police officer, Tanishka Sagban, a resident of Vasant Kunj, New Delhi, and her accomplice, Tarun Sharma, a resident of Kharar who would have deceived people.
Police in Kharar City filed a complaint under Articles 419, 420, 170 and 511 of the ICC, following a complaint by ASI Avtar Singh, head of the Sunny Enclave Police Station.
Avtar Singh was in Nijjar Chowk, Mundi Kharar, around 9:30 pm last night when he was informed that a fake female IPS officer was moving into the area with another person and was asking people to bring in Rs 20 lakh for recruitment the Punjab police or for a senior officer position of central government. She reportedly called senior officials from Mohali District and told them that she was stationed in Delhi and that she was going to Sangrur for an inspection. She asked that a car be arranged for her. The police, who already had information, set a trap and both were arrested at Arya College Road last night.
When the police asked the woman for an identity card, she could not produce it. The police checked from Delhi and learned that no IPS officer with that name had been badigned to it.
Both of them were presented to the court in Kharar today, which placed them in custody for a day.
According to the police, the woman is 28 years old and has a master's degree in English. She appeared on the public service examination but failed to obtain it.
