Adi Contractor is a crook who plays his money by following western stereotypes of India. This is the type you are addressing if you are a foreigner who wants [ jobs for a ted unglee ] to be created in this country. An elephant pool, a group of beggars, he will organize them for you. So when asked to find a fakir who can survive and bury his head for hours, he nods.

After an unsuccessful search in Varanasi, Adi finds his holy man in Mumbai, his hometown. Sattar Ali is nothing but a cash cow for Adi, but when the poor man will be presented as an exhibition in an art gallery in Venice, you'll know that at At some point, the apathy of the hero will move on.

Based on a story by Homi Adajania (now known as director of Being Cyrus, Cocktail and Finding Fanny ), of the Fakir of Venice . ] has been stuck for a decade. 10 years ago, the festival was playing for the first time in a festival, but this week it was not introduced in Indian theaters. The delay is not his only problem. Although at a conceptual level, it is an interesting reversal of the trope of the white man, who finds clarifications on exotic lands, and although there is at the beginning a little humor in the shenanigans of Adi, the scenario is too predictable and superficial to make it a memorable one

Director Anand Surapur opts for a naturalistic narrative style, which can be appealing when it is complemented by substantial writing. In the absence of depth, this translates into a lack of energy.

Adi is played by Farhan Akhtar. In The Fakir of Venice he is the exact combination that has made him a star through other films: quite charismatic so that his game limitations are overshadowed by his appeal. Annu Kapoor manages to escape moments of sensitivity in the thin writing of Sattar Ali. You want to feel more for him though, but there is simply not enough Sattar beyond a sketchy schema and investment of the actor in the character.

Former VJ Kamal Sidhu plays an ephemeral role as an ex-girlfriend of Adi, but his role is short-lived. as much as all the rest of the film.

In terms of graphics, The Fakir of Venice is pretty, but it does not fully exploit its setting, considering that Venice is one of the most beautiful places in the world. .

Everything in this film is without conviction. Neither the charm of Farhan Akhtar nor the commitment of Annu Kapoor can save this half-cooked effort. To be fair, it's not unbearable or unbearable, it's simply immensely forgettable.
