The untitled yet untitled chapter of Fast and Furious, James Bond's upcoming film, and the restart of Dune by Blade Runner director 2049, Denis Villeneuve, have all been announced (new) release dates during the weekend, the first two being moved by a month or two. Instead of April 10, 2020, Fast and Furious 9 will open now on May 22, 2020. Bond 25, as the insiders are currently nicknamed, takes over to occupy this vacant location, while it was scheduled for the 14th February 2020. Meanwhile, Dune, which quickly closes its main actors, also has a release date: November 20, 2020.

Release date of Fast and Furious 9

Universal Pictures announced Friday to have decided to repel Fast and Furious 9. One month until May 2020, where Justin Lin (Fast Five) would be back alongside star Jordana Brewster, who plays the role of Mia Toretto, the sister of Dominic Toretto of Wine Diesel and the wife of the late Brian O. Connor, the late Paul Walker. Mia was last seen in Furious 7, the franchise's most profitable film. The new release date of Fast and Furious 9 indicates the same week as Godzilla vs. Kong – currently in production – following Kong: Skull Island, 2017, and the upcoming Godzilla: King of Monsters.

Previously, we had the first Fast. and Furious spin-off – Hobbs and Shaw, with Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham – released in August 2019. Johnson will not be part of Fast and Furious 9, he said. There is also a spin-off centered on women in the works.

Bond 25 release date

This brings us to the next James Bond movie, and maybe the last one with Daniel Craig in the lead. It was postponed from two months to April 2020, likely due to the hiring of new writer Scott Z. Burns (The Bourne Ultimatum), which was first reported by The Playlist on Saturday, claiming it was act of a "redesign". Bond 25 could use the extra two months – Burns will spend "at least four weeks," says The Playlist – and this is not the first time this has happened. When Cary Fukunaga was hired as a director last September, he was also postponed for a few months.

Fast and Furious 9 has been moved to accept Bond 25 because it has a joint distributor – Universal Pictures – who manages US on the latter and obviously does not want the two films to compete in the cinema. Bond 25 is currently the only film to be screened for the weekend of April 10, 2020.

Dune release date

And this leaves Dune, who was selected for November 2020 by Warner Bros., distribution partner from the Legendary Pictures studio. It's also the only movie of this weekend, for the moment. The 1965 adaptation of Frank Herbert's epic science fiction novel will feature Timothée Chalamet (Call Me by Name), Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible – Fallout), Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy), Stellan Skarsgård (Good Willingness), Charlotte Rampling (45), Oscar Isaac (Star Wars: The Last Jedi), Zendaya (Spider-Man: Homecoming), Javier Bardem (Skyfall), Josh Brolin (The Avengers: Infinity War ) and Jason Momoa (Aquaman).
