The authorities issued a flood alert on Friday in southern Kashmir. On Saturday, they issued a flood alert for the central Kashmir lowlands, including the summer capital here, and asked people to be vigilant and ready for evacuation. .

"Ram Munshi Bagh's gauge crossed the 18-foot statement and sank at 20.87 feet at 10 am," said an official of the Department of Irrigation and Flood Control.
He stated that people living in areas along the banks of the Jhelum River and other watercourses and in the low areas of central Kashmir were urged to remain vigilant.
"The staff badigned to the flood service in central Kashmir is required to report on their areas and their strikes," he said.
Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Syed Abid Shah Rasheed, said that people living in the lowlands and the banks of the Jhelum River in Srinagar were asked to be vigilant and ready to be evacuated.
"We issued a flood alert for the low areas of Srinagar," he said.
In southern Kashmir, the water level has pbaded the 21-foot flood reporting level at Sangam in the Anantnag district, in southern Kashmir, following which the alert has been given.
While the water level in Sangam at 10 o'clock this morning was 23.06 feet – still above the critical mark – the water started to recede there. At 9 o'clock in the morning, the water level was 23.16 feet.
The Kashmir valley has experienced rainfall over the past three days and the rainfall has intensified in many areas, including the state's summer capital, Friday.
Rising water levels caused residents of the valley to fear a new wave of floods in 2014 that caused considerable damage and left more than 300 people dead.
A MET office official said the weather was likely to improve on Saturday.
