20th Century Fox shared the first trailer of Ford v Ferrari, the upcoming drama starring Matt Damon and Christian Bale in lead roles and directed by James Mangold of Logan. The two-and-a-half-minute trailer pits the American manufacturer against the legendary Italian team at the 1964 Le Mans 24 Hours.
Damon plays Carroll Shelby, hired by Ford to create a worthy challenger to win Ferrari as the best carmaker race in the world. He has 90 days to design a car and find a driver with the stamina and skill to participate in Le Mans. He discovers Ken Miles, the British driver of the race car played by Bale.
The trailer offers several glimpses of high speed racing and many practical effects, all set on Gimme Shelter of the Rolling Stones. Bale appears in one of his most intense turns, while Damon plays Shelby with the charm of the movie star.
Ford v Ferrari also plays Catriona Balfe in the role of Ken Miles' wife, Noah Jupe, in the role of his son, Tracy Letts in Henry Ford II Jon Bernthal plays Lee Iacocca and Remo Girone plays Enzo Ferrari
Mangold previously directed Johnny Cash's biopic, Walk the Line, before making two of his greatest hits with The Wolverine and Logan. Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt were originally to play the leading roles. Ford v Ferrari will be distributed by Walt Disney Motion Pictures, under the banner 20th Century Fox, after the takeover by the studio.
