The 2018 World Cup of Hockey is set to begin on November 27 with the Opening Ceremony at Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The Hockey World Cup is scheduled from November 27 to December 16. Here is the complete schedule (meetings), groups and timing of matches in IST. In total, 36 matches will be played during the competition. Belgium will play its first match against Canada on November 28th. 16 teams were divided into four groups of four teams each. The best team in each group will qualify for the round of 16 after the group stage. The play-offs between the second and third place teams in each group will see four more teams enter the quarter-finals.

The last edition of the World Hockey Cup was held at the Kyocera Stadion in The Hague, The Netherlands. . Australia won the tournament after defeating the Netherlands in the final. It was the third Australian title in the World Cup. Pakistan has won the most tournaments of the World Cup. Their four victories were won in 1971, 1978, 1982 and 1994. Only the Indian World Cup title was won in 1975, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. As a host, India hopes to add something to this record and has announced a young and dynamic team for the tournament, led by coach Harendra Singh. India is currently ranked fifth in the world, after a strong year 2018 which took them to second place at the 2018 Asian Games and the 2018 Men's Champions Trophy.
