ISLAMABAD: The funeral prayers of Pakistani religious Maulana Samiul Haq, also known as the "Taliban godfather", will take place Saturday in his hometown, Akora Khattak, in the north-west from Khyber Province of Pakhtunkhwa.
Haq, 82, was stabbed to death by unidentified badailants at his home in Rawalpindi Garrison City on Friday.
According to a FIR filed at a police station in Rawalpindi, the attack reportedly occurred at 6:45. (local time) and the octogenarian leader was stabbed 12 times in the belly, chest, forehead and ears.
The funeral prayer will be held at Akora Khattak, Nowshehra District, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, where the provincial government has declared a day of celebration.
Sophisticated security measures have been taken for the last sacraments of the cleric while several prominent leaders are expected to attend.
Reports indicate that emissaries from Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia and Qatar I will also participate in the funeral prayer.
Haq conducted the Darul Uloom Haqqania Seminary at Akora Khattak.
The seminar is dubbed "Jihad University" by several senior Taliban leaders in Afghanistan and Pakistan. including Mullah Omar who had received an honorary doctorate from the seminary.
He was also leader of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Sami (JUI-S) religious and political party and was twice elected to Parliament.
To date, no organization has claimed responsibility for the murder.
An investigation was opened into the badault of the badailants who apparently escaped motorbikes, police said.
