After using two episodes to organize meetings and remove dubious secrets, Game of Thrones officials made sure to have a full hour and a half of time to present one the most intense battle scenes. There is no time wasted in setting the tone of the show. As the White Walkers get closer to Winterfell, the soldiers have very little time in their hands. Preparations were already in full swing in episode two and in episode three entitled The Long Night, these plans are executed.
From the beginning, there was a feeling of pressure. The heavy bbad music coupled with Tyrion Lannister in the dark air says a thousand words. There is a lot of tension that comes from everything that happens. As the camera focuses on Tyrion, soldiers and leaders get ready in the background. All important people have an introduction. Anyone who has worked on audio for this episode really deserves an increase.
The long night was portrayed as the episode that would rival the epic battle scene of Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers The stakes were damn high. The battle began at night and, thanks to this environment, it was extremely difficult to know what was happening on the screen. There was a lot of confusion, yes, but this is expected in all war scenes. Things did not seem to get any better than once the trenches lit up.
The battle scenes were complex. However, the human army seemed to provide little or no resistance. They were simply invaded by the king of the night and his henchmen. It's as if they did not even try. Most of the murders have been left to the main characters in the series: Jamie Lannister, Brienne, Jon Snow (Aegon Targaryen), Daenerys, Ser Jora, Gray Worm, Arya and a few others.
The battle scenes of dragons seemed terrible and real. The only drawback is that they did not last too long. The manufacturers' plan to build this episode seems to rest on the idea that Jon's and Dany's strategies have failed. At no time did he feel that the armies of men had an advantage.
Finally, the death of the King of the night felt wild and stunned. Half of the season is down and suddenly the guy simply dies ?! Choked like that? He is supposed to be the incarnation of evil. For the duration of the series, the king of the night was simply walking on the battlefield, riding a dragon and then falling, and when he finally seemed to redeem himself, Arya knocked. It was simply not satisfying to see the biggest scumbag in the series die of an inexpensive death.
The remaining episodes will probably consist of taking the throne of Cersei. And also to show that Bran does absolutely nothing, except to look blissful. Heck, even Dany scored a few attacks and all Bran does is sit on that wheelchair and try to see the carnage around him better. The long night has its share of dead, the most brutal being Lyanna Mormont. The Long Night was tempted, scored a lot of points, but failed to take the cake. There were no major deaths to make your Monday miserable, but nothing made you exceptionally happy.
