Gautam Gambhir, a former Indian international, received the prestigious Padma Shri civil award on Saturday, January 26, the fourth highest prize awarded in India.
Gambhir, veteran of 58 tests and 147 international one day for India was part of the Indian teams for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 and the two tournaments of the ICC World Twenty20 2007, won by the 'India.
This 37-year-old recently announced his retirement from all disciplines of the game. With this award, along with other Indian sportsmen, including Sunil Chhetri, captain of the Indian football team, and Bajrang Punia, Indian wrestler.

"It is an honor that I accept with gratitude, but it is an honor that also carries responsibilities", said Gambhir on Twitter. "I live the day that Gautam Gambhir, the human being, beats Gautam Gambhir, the cricketer, it will be my day, my reward for myself."
Gambhir was formerly the drummer ranked in MRF Tires ICC Test # 1. Ranking for drummers and was part of the Indian team that climbed to the top of the rankings. He accumulated 4154 tests at 41.95 with nine centuries and 5238 ODI at 39.68 with 11 tons.
The lefty is fondly remembered for his victories in the finals of the two CIC – 97 tournaments against Sri Lanka. Final World Cup 2011 and 75 against Pakistan in the World T20 2007.
