Getting his aura right was the hardest part

[ad_1]

The Bollywood actor, Paresh Rawal, is currently eliciting a huge infatuation for his impeccable rendition of the late actor and Bollywood icon, Sunil Dutt, in Ranbir Kapoor's film, Sanju. While Rabir's description of Sanjay Dutt's life obviously receives much praise from all sides, Paresh's back is also tapped to bring the actor of yesteryear to life on the big screen . In an exclusive interview with DNAIndia.com, Paresh Rawal revealed that giving life to Sunil Dutt's aura was the hardest part of his role.

Here is the complete interview of Paresh Rawal –

You have been in this industry for so long, but this trend to promote cinema has only begun recently. How do you like the case of film promotions?

(Laughs) Do not belittle anyone, but I do not like him at all. See, it should be limited (only a few channels, daily or websites). But, you are done to give interviews to everyone. In the evening, you get tired of repeating yourself. You start boring yourself with your repeated responses. Sometimes things go wrong too when you deliberately try to add new things so your answers look healthy. Personally, I do not like it (movie promotions).

Kareena Kapoor Khan had recently stated that the trailer of a movie was enough and that the promotions did not really allow to change minds.

Yes, exactly. See, I'll give you two examples. I do not want to name the star. We were out of Bombay (Mumbai). It was a big city and we went to a mall (to promote a movie). Some 5,000 to 6,000 people had come to the mall that day. They were all greeting and hooting for the star.

The distributor was a friend of mine and when the film was released, I called him on Saturday to ask how was the answer. He told me that only 83 tickets were sold! I was surprised and I asked him but there were so many people yesterday at the mall. & # 39; He told me that they had just seen the star, not the movie. Only, the mall's food department has benefited from the whole concert. It did not help us at all!

Another thing is the promotional songs. The trend has fortunately slowed down now, but a few years ago, songs were only created for movie promotions. These songs do not necessarily have anything to do with the plot of the movies. For example, I could play a teacher in the movie but in the song I would be seen doing monkeys. Which means that you are aggressively promoting a bad image of the movie. You are lost people. And be careful, these songs are made on huge budgets. I do not understand that at all.

You play Sunil Dutt in Sanju. Were you aware that the role was already offered to Aamir Khan?

I really do not know Many actors gave screen tests for the role. I was maybe the last. But last or first, I'm just very happy that I was able to work with Raju (Rajkumar Hirani) and Ranbir Kapoor. More importantly, I'm happy to have been part of this movie.

What is your first memory of Sunil Dutt?

This was a good man. A noble human being. He was a man who actually practiced what he had used to preach. A real, good man, that's my impression for him.

Have you had the opportunity to meet him in person?

Yes, I met him two or three times. You have felt that you meet a nice person. You could say that he would never lie to you. He would never say anything bad.

Was it difficult to bring his aura to life on the screen?

Very difficult. It was more of an internal process.

For Rajkumar Hirani, 'Sanju & # 39; is first a father-son story then anything else. What kind of equation do you share with your son on the screen, Ranbir Kapoor? And did your off-screen relationship with him help you anyway?

Ranbir was of immense help. His performance was so good that there were times when I simply reacted organically without even making an effort to "act". Moreover, the script and the director play a huge role. Rajkumar Hirani is a jewel of a person. You can trust him completely. I believe that if the mood on the set is positive, it definitely reflects on the screen. Your job becomes easy if the environment on the whole is healthy and positive.

When you were finalized for Sanju, what did you excite the most – working in a Rajkumar Hirani movie or playing Sunil Dutt?

I was going to become a part of Munna Bhai MBBS. (He would have been offered the role of Boman Irani in the movie.) But, for some reason, I could not do it. Since then, every time I watched his films, I always thought "when will I work with him?". So, the desire was still there. So, of course, I was happier to finally be able to work with Rajkumar Hirani

Then the scenario. In addition, Ranbir Kapoor is one of my favorite actors of the younger batch. Above all of this, I was asked to try the role of Sunil Dutt, who has always been one of my favorites. Many years ago, I said in one of my interviews that "it is a man who can go anywhere in public with the utmost ease. His face radiates honesty. This man had traveled on foot to the Golden Temple, Amritsar of Mumbai

Ek hota haina ki chalo uda do Sunil Dutt ko, let's make an example of him. Khauf baith jaayega. By kisiki goli nahi chali thi is aadmi ke upar. (This could have been a great opportunity for some to inject fear into people's hearts but no bullet was fired at him.) He was Satya (Truth ).

How was it to work with the rest of the cast?

Vicky Kaushal – still a brilliant talent! I liked it a lot in Masaan too. The control of the younger generation on their job, their balance, really, really surprises me. I did not have any scenes with Anushka (Sharma) and Sonam (Kapoor). I've already worked with Dia Ji (Mirza) in a movie. But I did not have any scenes with her either. I've already worked with Manisha ji (Koirala). He called himself "Milan." It was a Mahesh Bhatt movie with Jackie Shroff and her. She is still as dignified, beautiful and balanced as she was then.

Madhuri Dixit Nene had said in a recent interview that she felt good about going back to the sets because things are more organized now. Everything is pre-planned and the actors are more disciplined.

Yes, that's right. He feels good. It should be like this. This is the discipline that the gear requires. I think, two films that had come in the 2000s – Lagaan and Dil Chahta Hai, have really changed the nuts and bolts of the industry. Aamir Khan shot the film in Bhuj, not in Lonavala or elsewhere – Bhuj, far from Mumbai! It took a lot of planning and research.

Secondly, Dil Chahta Hai – different characterization, different language, absolutely different voice. It did not seem like the actors were saying dialogues. It seemed like they were conversing normally. They really started the millennium on a good start.

How do you like the movies of today?

I recently saw Raazi – Waah ! (Wow) Meghna ji (Gulzar) Kamaal hain (That's amazing). Alia adhbudh (that's amazing). Even Rajit bhai (Kapur).

Do you think Bollywood is in good hands?

Golden Period aane wala hai (is about to come). We are going towards that. Actors saare usi kisam ke aa rahe hain. (All new actors are promising.) Rajkummar Rao, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Irrfan Khan, Varun Dhawan, Sushant Singh Rajput – they are all wonderful. I want to work with each one of them. Even Rajeev Khadelwal. His luck has not been with him lately, but he also has a lot of talent.

A genre you want to try?

Musical tragedy. We are doing a drama – let's see how it goes.

Bollywood is riding the trend of Biopics these days. You yourself have been part of several successful biopics like 'Sardar'. (played Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel), & # 39; Road to Sangam & # 39; (tried the role of Hasmat Ullah Khan), "Tamanna & # 39; (played the role of Tikku) and the last being "Sanju" (portrays Sunil Dutt). How do you see this trend?

I am glad we finally gave up superficial things and started to recognize the stories of ordinary people as "dramas". For example, when you see MS Dhoni (played by Sushant Singh Rajput) sitting on the platform of a station, you learn a lot about his character. That our films have dropped the cliché, a sort of obvious melodrama, is a huge relief. I really appreciate that such stories are told

How does Narendra Modi's biopic take shape?

The script has almost been locked. We will go upstairs around September-October

Will you produce it or …?

No, I will only do it (smiles).

If a biopic is done on you in the future, who would you like to play your part?

You mean a biopic about me? Why would anyone do a biopic on me? I would have lived my life in a certain way, if I had known that a biopic was going to be done in the future. I agree, each person's life has enough drama to be translated into a movie but I can not say the same thing about myself. I do not particularly have any actor names in mind. But, I would like a good actor to play it for sure.

Ranbir Kapoor had admitted in the trailer of "Sanju & # 39; that he had not had the courage, like Sanjay Dutt, to tell his story to anyone. Would you be able to tell your story honestly?

I do not think it would be very difficult for me to open the chapters of my life because there are not many of them. Rajkumar Hirani had clearly told him (Sanjay Dutt) that they would not glorify his life and that the fact that Sanjay continued to share his story was indeed brave on his part.

Hera Pheri 3 is it really happening?

I do not know. I've heard about it for ages but no one has approached me yet. But I think it has to be done, it's a great movie, a great frachise. But they should show some growth in characters otherwise there is no pleasure in doing the same thing, old thing again and again. They should also have an interesting story. For example, Lage Raho Munna Bhai was technically following Munna Bhai MBBS but they showed a quantum leap. If anyone has the courage to make a sequel to Hera Pheri, they should do it like that.

You are right. Phir Hera Pheri was not loved as much as Hera Pheri.

We made a mistake there. Maybe a little too smart. I know, it did not work. If they really want to do it, they should take the Babu Rao character somewhere. This character is self-sufficient in himself. It can be installed anywhere in the plot. He is cunning, gullible, vulnerable, stupid, heroic, human at the same time. This character has many colors in himself. It looks a bit like R.K Lakshman's "ordinary man"

Do you consider Hera Pheri as a milestone in your career?

I think it was "Arjun", my first mainstream movie. Javed Saab (Javed Akhtar) and Salim Khan had said while "if there is anyone who can replace you in this industry, then it is you, yourself."

You mostly played negative characters in Telugu movies while you are known as a comedy actor in Bollywood. How does this work?

No, so I started with only negative characters. But the thing with our Hindi Film Industry, is that they start to offer you the same kind of roles over and over again if you understand well in a movie. They do not understand that a single cook may be able to make idli pasta and baje ki roti at the same time. If they saw you do idli they will only ask you to do idlis .

Do you intentionally choose such roles to balance?

No, no. I've also played positive roles in Southern movies. Why should I put myself in a cage? If I start experimenting with something new in a different language, why would not I? First, I get paid for it, secondly, I learn new languages and I also do different types of roles. It has always been a win-win situation for me. I can no longer settle for routine roles.

Some of your fans were really upset to see you play such a small role in Salman Khan's Tiger Zinda Hai. What would you like to tell them?

I think it's really important to see how a particular role is placed throughout history. In addition, the main reason was that it was the first time in my 34 year career that I was working with the Yash Raj Films banner. So, I was really glad that I finally got to tick that off my list. And, I also liked the character very much. When Adi called me for the movie, he had said that it was a good role.

Naseeruddin Shah, Anupam Kher and you have always wanted to be actors of characters. OMG was the only exception where you had to play a leading role for the first time in your acting career. Do you think there are not enough stories written for men of average age today?

Amitabh Bachchan is still working to make it clear that stories are written. Honestly, I have no complaints of Bollywood. There is enough for everyone in the industry. Topics like OMG are done once a century. But it has not been recognized by any reward function. If he had received a single reward, it might have encouraged others to make more movies like these. But it happens. I have no complaints as such. I'm just doing my job. I always have theater to go back to where I can satiate my hunger to play different roles.

You are quite active on social networks. How do you judge that?

To some extent, it is important. But we should try to be positive. There were times when I even got a little carried away and made mistakes. But I learned that from Modi Ji (PM Narendra Modi) to never tweet anything negative. You choose any tweet from his handle and you would not be able to find a single negative tweet.

Regarding the spread of poison, anyone can do it. Twitter had become a puking pot at one point, I think it's better now. People used to say unpleasant things on the platform. I had the habit of blocking them instantly. I never answer. Because I know that they are waiting for your attention. I never recognize them.

Why does your twitter talk about "Monsieur" Paresh Rawal?

When I opened the account, I learned that the name "Paresh Rawal" was already taken. My account was made by one of my friends who lives in America. Honestly, I did not even know how to do it. So, coincidence, the day he was doing my count, my movie 'Sir & # 39; was broadcast on television. He asked me if he needed to add 'Sir'. in my Twitter handle. I told him "go ahead".
